Wood: STIWOOD chooses the environmentally-friendly material par excellence.

Why are forests so important?

There are many reasons why forests are an important feature for the environment and in our daily lives. Forests are habitats to millions of animals and support numerous ecosystems. About 80% of all earth’s species live in forests. They play an important role in the purification of the atmospheric air and, speaking of economics, forests are of vast economic benefits to us, a huge economic resource. So, forests play an important biological and economic role as well as a major part in climate change. Forests are the green lungs of our planet and we must care for them.

We choose a responsible and sustainable use of wood.

The wood we use is of European origin and from legal and sustainable sources under EUTR - European Union Timber Regulation. Our wood products are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified and came from well-managed forests. By certifying our supply chain and production processes, we want to send a powerful message about our commitment to sustainable forestry product sourcing. As wood-lovers, we fight global deforestation in order to maintain biodiversity and help protect the environment: the wood we use comes from a reforestation program plantation, to preserve and conserve the natural heritage.

We love wood because it can be recycled several times, for example for further wood productions or other industrial applications. What we want to communicate the most is our responsible use of woods: making more from less is part of our work's method and we always use resources efficiently. Our goal? To waste as little as possible. In this context, in the production's process wood scraps are collected directly by machines and take into a mil for maceration; then, the wood chips can be used as fuel for technological system, such as the electrical power production. We're very proud of these environment-oriented synergies.

Wood design: the types of wood we prefere.

There are more than 70 wood's types in the world, but the species we love the most and use for our products - from the sound absorbing panels to the armchairs, are only 4: BIRCH, OAK, BEECH, ASH-WOOD.

We work with solid-wood to create our
tables and our chairs' frames. We manufacture beech plywood in E1 class - therefore at low formaldehyde emissions - and, when necessary, the external surface is made up of the finest wood's types, such as oak and ash-wood. For the final varnishing, which is the finishing touch, we use water based coating on request to exalt the search for a product that is always more natural.

Call us biased, but we're sure you'll agree with us that wood is an evergreen, noble and durable material and most of all a living element. That's exacty why we like it.
